The current research in NBB focuses on two main areas: the neural basis of behavior and the evolution of behavior. The first area explores how the nervous system, from individual neurons to entire neural circuits, coordinates diverse sensory, cognitive, and motor computations to mediate innate and learned behaviors. The second area investigates the reasons behind specific behaviors by considering their evolution through natural selection. It also examines the evolutionary history of these behaviors by analyzing patterns of behavioral phylogeny and genome evolution. This dual focus aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how animal behavior is generated and shaped over time.
